Adam C. Smith (he/him/his)
Hi! I am a Ph.D. candidate in the philosophy department at the University of Utah.
I came to philosophy through my interest in the science and ethics of genetics. My philosophical interests have greatly expanded since then but I am mostly drawn to issues in social & political philosophy, feminist philosophy of science, and values in science, with a focus on emergency and disaster management and healthcare. I also take an interdisciplinary approach whenever possible (so, always). I am passionate about my research, but am equally (and maybe) more passionate about becoming a great teacher so that I can give students the philosophical skills necessary to successfully investigate the things in the world they are curious about, no matter how big or small, concrete or abstract, practical or theoretical those things may be. Philosophy is for everyone, so academic philosophy must be for everyone and I am committed to helping make sure everyone is truly welcome. If you have any interest in philosophy whatsoever, I am more than happy to talk about it with you, so please do not hesitate to contact me. |
